Disney donates $250K towards gambling expansion restriction efforts

Voters in Charge is a group based in the state of Florida that is working to see regulations put in place to make it harder for the state to expand the gambling industry. The group would like to see a proposed amendment added to the ballot next November that would give the decision making in regards to casino gambling strictly to the residents of the state. Disney is now in the mix, having contributed $250,000 to the political committee in efforts to see the measure placed on the ballot.

According to information revealed on the state Division of Elections website, Disney Worldwide Services, Inc. has provided Voters in Charge with $250,000 to help their efforts to make it harder for the state to expand gambling.

Just last month, the Florida Supreme Court approved the wording of the proposed amendment to the constitution in which it states that the voters would be given the exclusive right to decide if casino gambling will be authorized within the state with voter approval required for casino style games in the future.

To be able to see the measure placed on the ballot, Voters in Charge must submit verified petition signatures, 766,200 to be exact. The signatures must be verified and approved by elections officials.

In Apr 7BALL il, the $250,000 from Disney helped the group to raise a total of $287,675 for the month. The Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association provided $30,000 of that amount. Just over $103,000 was spent towards petition gathering in payment to the National Voter Outreach, Inc. firm.
